Our mission is to provide and promote quality, cost-effective and community-based services that will enable persons affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance use disorders to live productive and satisfying lives.

Planning District One Behavioral Health Services’ Board of Directors has chosen to work in partnership with Frontier Health to accomplish our mission and to ensure that individuals have access to a wide array of services that are effective and proven to enhance the overall quality of life for individuals in our communities. We recognize that healthier individuals improve the overall health of our communities and our own lives.

We have chosen to work together to build diversified funding sources from foundations, state, federal and other grants, fees, and community and local government support.

Under the umbrella of the PD1 BHS (Community Services Board), Frontier Health operates the direct services. Frontier Health is a private, nonprofit 501-C-3 behavioral health organization that serves our counties of Lee, Scott and Wise, and the City of Norton in Virginia. Frontier Health also provides services in 8 counties in the upper East Tennessee area.
